Shining a Light on Lupus

Lupus is a complex, often invisible autoimmune disease. Awareness is the first step toward better diagnosis, treatment, and community support. I'm here to help you navigate the complexity.

What is Lupus?

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. This results in symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs.

Because its symptoms mimic so many other diseases, it is often called "The Great Imitator." On average, it takes nearly 6 years from the first onset of symptoms for people with lupus to be accurately diagnosed.
